I find it encouraging that on the very first day of being Peace UCC, as everyone dealt with hard stuff, people did things that work for peace: they summoned courage to speak about what troubled them, they listened to each other, explored options, and respected each other and the process, hanging in when things got confused. Peace work is hard work, and as difficult as it was, it was good work. We are increasing our understanding of each other. We learned of areas where we can do better. Though there were some tears, I didn't sense despair. Let us continue to sing Woyaya: "It will be hard, we know, and the road will be muddy and rough, but we'll get there - heaven knows how we will get there, we know we will." It's not just a song, it's a prayer. Let us trust the Spirit to be with us as we discover what else it means to Peace United Church of Christ.

Our elected lay leadership is doing a great job. The hard part of leadership is undstanding transpiration to the membership vs personel problems and work of the Church. I hope we all learned that more communication is a good thing.

My New Year's Eve is richer for a quote from "Healing After Loss" I share it to inform our practices of the heart. May we continue to sing together!

"...So may this New Year's Eve- this turning into the next year, this milestone which has its aura of sadness because I enter another year without my loved one- may this New Year"s Eve be for me a time of music. And if I am able-later, if not now-may I hear in my heart the voice of my loved one lifted with my voice, to praise life, to hope for life, to join others on this circling globe in an "Alleluia," for the experiences we have shared and share even now, and for the ways beyond time and death in which we are bound to one another in gratitude and love.
Happy New Year. Alleluia. Amen. "

These are tender musings, Katy -- deeply appreciated by me. What I will hold on to is this: "... though a rose deserves to be honored in the context of its thorny bush, ... reveling in the scented beauty for at least one silent night is worthy." (I might have said valid, but whatever --- it speaks to me about my deep desire to trust my heart before my head when Love is present. May the blessings of a Holy Midnight be yours.

Thanks, Phyllis. We all have much to do, but the work is so much sweeter with allies along the way. Peace to you,
